PANAJI: Goa
BJP cancelled all its election events, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual rally ‘Jan Sankalp Sabha’ and the release of its manifesto, following the demise of legendary singer and Bharat Ratna awardee Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday. BJP has condoled her death.
“As we all grieve the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, BJP has decided to cancel all its programmes scheduled for the day, today,” BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said.
Mangeshkar breathed her last at the Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, on Sunday.
“Her death has left the entire country mourning. It is a great loss to the nation,” Tanavade said.
He said that Mangeshkar had a good relationship with Goa because the family was connected to the Mangueshi temple and Goans have always felt that they were close to them. “Not a single day has passed without listening to her songs. Without listening to her songs, people of India did not have a good day,” he said.
The BJP state president also said that Mangeshkar was able to carve a place for herself not only in the hearts of Indians, but also that of people of other nationalities.
BJP Goa election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis said that with Mangeshkar’s demise music has lost its soul. Fadnavis said that she has sung thousands of songs in various languages and has created a record. “Her songs were popular in all languages. Mangeshkar’s voice has mesmerised people. Her voice is immortal,” Fadnavis said, adding that not only was she an excellent singer, but also a sensitive personality and a patriot.
Fadnavis said that they are experiencing the same heartbreak they would have if someone close to them had passed away.
