  is an Indian National Congress politician from Goa. He has been serving as a General Secretary in the

  All India Congress Committee

  (AICC) since 2013 and is also the

  Goa Pradesh Congress Committee

  (GPCC) president.
• He has previously served two terms as the eighth Chief Minister of Goa between 1998–99.
• In January last year,

  Faleiro

  met AICC president Sonia Gandhi to be relieved of his responsibilities in the state, but was requested to continue and fight the 2017 Assembly elections.
• Faleiro is expected to contest from his old battle ground of Navelim in the state. He had been elected from Navelim for more than two decades between 1984-2007, including unanimously once.
• Faleiro has accused BJP of what he called "politics of coercion" and expressed concern over Congress MLAs being threatened by other parties. This reaction came days after Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho resigned from the Congress, Madkaikar put in his papers to join the BJP.
• Faleiro will be pitted against independent candidate and current Navelim MLA and fisheries minister Avertano Furtado, who was once a strong supporter of Faleiro.
• GPCC President Luizinho has called Rahul Gandhi the most revered and emerging new face of Congress leadership, adding that, “We are nostalgic and proud that your mother is an example of selfless sacrifice.”
