KOLKATA: The
Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday said it has not found any substance in the complaint made by the
CPI-M
against
Trinamool Congress'
Nandigram
candidate
Suvendu Adhikari
. The CPI-M had alleged that Adhikari held a meeting with some police officers in poll-bound
East Midnapore
district.
"We had sought a report from the district authorities, who said the complaints could not be substantiated," additional chief electoral officer Dibyendu Sarkar said.
In its complaint to the EC on Tuesday, the CPI-M had said that Adhikari had held a meeting at a college at Panskura in East Midnapore district on May 1 with officers-in charge of Moyna, Haldia, Marishda, Ramnagar and Panskura police stations.
The sixth and final phase of polling will be held tomorrow in West Bengal and results will be out on May 19.
The poll panel said the ban on publication of exit polls will remain in place till 6.30 PM of May 16, as polling will be held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry in a single phase on that day.
