Burdwan: A booth committee president of Trinamool Congress was hacked to death and his brother injured when a group of about eight to ten armed miscreants attacked them at Bisnupur village under trouble-torn Mongolkote police station area on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Subir Ghosh (45). Debashis Mondal, Ketugram panchayat samity vice president, alleged that Subir and his brother Sujit were having tea at a stall when a group of miscreants, "patronised by the CPM", attacked them.
Tamal Majhi, former MLA of Ketugram and a CPM leader, refuted the allegations and said that the incident was a fallout of faction fight within the ruling party.
An FIR has been lodged but none has been arrested.
SDPO of Katwa, Sachim Makkar, said that Ketugram police have started a probe and have spoken to the victims' kin.
