TMC goes by almanac, not Marxists, says Sujan

TMC goes by almanac, not Marxists, says Sujan
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee.
Facing an election that is suddenly riddled with X-factors - the Narada and syndicate stings and Vivekananda flyover crash - Mamata hasn't wavered from her tried and tested lucky charm.
Sociologist Prasanta Roy believes it's not just in the stars. "I believe Trinamool is sending out a subtle message in a calibrated manner. By choosing a day that is religiously special to certain communities it wants to say that we - as a party - are with you in your beliefs."
Sujan Chakraborty, CPM candidate for Jadavpur, is also filing his papers on Friday but dismissed any talk of a 'lucky' Friday.
"Panji-puthi dekhe nomination karbar is Trinamool karbar (It's Trinamool that depends on the almanac. We had decided on this date a fortnight ago because it involved mobilising a lot of people," he said.
Daitapati Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, who says he transferred the 'Brahma' into the new Jagannath idol at Puri during Nabakalebar, is familiar with Mamata's fondness for Friday. "There are certain dates that suit certain individuals. It is Friday for her. As a public leader, she may be doing hundreds of tasks throughout the week, but she senses that she reaps the most benefits on that day," says the 68-year-old servitor at Jagannath Temple.
Speaking from Puri, Mohapatra - whose sixth sense the CM trusts a lot - said, "I believe, and it's my faith saying, that she will be back in the chief minister's chair after May 19. A few insensible people may be out to undo her efforts, but she is only biding her time to take them to task."
Bhawswati Chattopadhyay, who heads the Indian Institute of Astrology, suggests certain days are beneficial to certain individuals but that is strictly due to the planetary positions in their horoscope. Astrologer Ashish Chakrabarti, who advises several top political leaders in New Delhi and Kolkata, says "Friday has a multiplier effect. It translates near gains into actual gains. For people in power, therefore, it is important."
