Kolkata: A day before the Parliament session convenes on Monday, CPM chose to step up their attacks against the alleged Trinamool-BJP bonhomie with an eye on the ongoing Bengal polls.

The attack appears to be a move to fend off the rising din from the Trinamool and BJP camps on the Left-Congress alliance in Bengal and their sparring in Kerala.

In a series of letters released to the media and written by CPM MP Md Selim to finance minister Arun Jaitley, the CPM leader raises certain pointed posers on the Centre's apparent apathy to probe the charges against the Alchemist Group and its chairman-emeritus and Trinamool MP K D Singh. Selim in a pre-budget letter to Jaitley also questions why he allowed Singh to host a lunch for him at his parliamentary office, at a time when the finance ministry was probing charges against Singh. Later, Selim alleged that both SFIO and ED, who are probing the charges against the group and Singh, were soft-pedalling on the matter.

Coming close on the heels of Trinamool spokesperson Derek O' Brien's controversial Saturday press conference in which he tried to harp on the Congress-CPM alliance issue, the CPM retort, a source said, is apparently aimed at shifting the onus back on the ruling Trinamool.
