Howrah/Burdwan/Murshidabad: The last vote may have been cast in the seven-round Bengal assembly polls, but there's no let up in incidents of goons targeting kids. In Howrah's Liluah, alleged Trinamool goons barged into the house of local CPM activist Shuibu Sinha and severely beat up his 14-year-old grandson Kanu. Class-X student Kanu is the fifth child victim of poll violence.
On Thursday evening, five to six bike-borne goons, allegedly backed by Trinamool, stopped in front of 66-year-old CPM local committee member Sinha's house at Ramkrishna Colony in Liluah's Chowkpara. "The bikers told me that I would have to accompany them. When I asked why, the bikers whom I recognised as known Trinamool goons in our area told me that they needed to discuss why I had worked overtime for my party during the election. I noticed that all the bikers had pistols tucked in their waists. When my grandson Kanu came out, the goons started beating him mercilessly. He received injuries on his lips and eyes," said Shibu. "We are searching for four men named in the FIR," said police.
A bomb was recovered from Udaynagar Colony Junior High School in Murshidabad's Jalangi on Friday. But police said it was recovered from an under-construction bathroom nearby.
Residents of Satitara in Burwan, meanwhile, reported about a bomb blast in a local Trinamool leader's house on Thursday. They alleged at least four bomb makers were injured but their acquaintances took them away before a police case could be lodged.
