Elaborating on the post-poll attack and police inaction, Buddhadeb Ghosh, the CPM secretary for ward 101, said: "I got prior information of the attack from a section of the ruling Trinamool and alerted the OC of Patuli police station. At that time, the Trinamool men were just assembling. When I made the second call, the OC got irritated and banged the phone down.
The Trinamool goons continued with the siege. They shattered windows and glass panes with bamboo sticks and iron rods till local women came out on the streets to challenge them. The OC reached the spot much later and asked us not to take the law in our hands. He allowed the 30-odd men to escape."
On Wednesday, members of an NGO, Save Democracy Forum, reached out to the family and promised to take up the matter. Following EC's directives, Kolkata Police has sought a detailed report from Patuli OC Abhijit Ghosh. The EC has designated the director general of police, now placed under the commission, to curb post-poll violence across the state. The DGP is sending the poll panel regular reports on how the police are addressing the various complaints.
Lawyer Jayanta Narayan Chatterjee, while filing the petition on behalf of Mayarani Ghosh, has made the EC, the state government, the commissioner of police, deputy commissioner (south) and officer-in-charge of Patuli police station parties to the case.
