Midnapore: Setting aside their differences, Trinamool MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Mukul Roy kicked off the party's formal campaign in Jangalmahal on Sunday, paving the way for CM Mamata Banerjee's campaign on March 25 and 26 and again on March 30 and 31.

Abhishek had taken over Mukul's role as the party's minder in West Midnapore after the senior leader distanced himself from the party.

Flying into Jamboni and later Nayagram in a chopper, Roy repeatedly said his junior colleague was "like a son". Roy told the people he had been there when Mamata, on January 1, 1993, started her outreach in these parts. "If you feel Mamata has kept her word to you, bless us again. Jangalmahal hasn't seen bloodshed in her tenure," he said. Abhishek said: "To vote for CPM is to bring the red terror back. In a land which had only spilt blood, Mamata Banerjee has ushered in an era of people and development. She had worked tirelessly to provide food, basic shelter and employment."
