With 10-page rebuttal, Jaya counters Karuna’s charges

CHENNAI: The war of words between chief minister J Jayalalithaa and her arch rival M Karunanidhi gathered heat with the former issuing strong rebuttals to the allegations of unfulfilled promises being levelled against her.
Unfulfilled promises by both the parties have appeared to gain centrestage in the campaign meetings with Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi trading charges.Soon after Karunanidhi levelled such charges, Jayalalithaa countered him with a list of unfulfilled poll promises given by the DMK regime prior to 2006 elections.
At her Kancheepuram public meeting a few days ago, Jayalalithaa gave a pointed rebuttal to the charges that she failed to implement her electoral promises given in the run up to 2011 assembly elections.On Sunday it was turn of announcements made in the floor of the assembly under rule 110 of Tamil Nadu legislative act that she sought to defend.
In a 10-page statement, Jayalalithaa countered the charge by DMK leaders that she failed to implement the announcements she made under rule 110. “False propaganda is the only weapon available with DMK,'' she said. Jayalalithaa said 12 announcements made by her related to school education department in 2011­ 12 which have been implemented, while 23 more were implemented in the next three years.
Countering Jayalalithaa's remarks on unfulfilled promises of DMK when it was in power during 2006-2011, Karunanidhi asked her to explain her ties with cabinet minister Natham Viswanathan and An bunathan from whose house election officials seized `4.77 crore cash and another `10.33 lakh from a godown in Karur.
At Cuddalore, Karunanidhi questioned whether chief minister visited the people affected by the rain floods in the district. “Did the chief minister visit you? Did they provide you what you needed? Did they wipe your tears or redress your woes,“ he asked.

Trichy: DMK chief M Karunanidhi referred to allegations of irregularities against senior cabinet minister O Panneerselvam and his cabinet colleagues and asked whether the Tamil Nadu governor or Centre would take action against them. At Mayiladuthurai, he said crores of rupees were being spent to buy votes.
