While uncertainty prevails over TMC's fate regarding an alliance with the AIADMK for the assembly election, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa made several changes in the list of her party candidates. She had apportioned seven seats to her six minor allies, who will contest in the AIADMK's two-leaves symbol. But, there was no word about TMC led by G K Vasan.
“There has been no official communication yet. We are waiting,“ Vasan told TOI on Thursday. Speculation was rife that Jayalalithaa might concede 16 seats to the TMC and give the nod for the party to contest in its own new symbol of coconut farm. But, there was no official confirmation on this. Sources said there were hitches in seat-sharing talks between the parties after the AIADMK refused to budge from its offer of eight to nine seats and the pre-condition that the TMC should contest in the two-leaves symbol.
But, keen to project itself as the “real“ Congress, the TMC was hoping to contest at least 25 seats on its own symbol in alliance with AIADMK. The party lost its original symbol of bicycle that was chosen by G K Moopanar when he launched the party in 1996. If there is a breakthrough in the alliance talks, Vasan is likely to meet Jayalalithaa and ink a deal soon.
Sources in the DMDK-PWF alliance said the leaders were not averse to rope in the TMC and would even part with a decent number of seats for the party if it fails to strike a deal with AIADMK.
