CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government on Saturday appointed senior IPS officer K P Maghendran as DGP (Elections), entrusting him with all poll-related works involving police for the May 16 Assembly polls in the state.
Maghendran, who was DGP (Training) in Chennai, has been transferred and posted as DGP (Elections) and is entrusted with all election related works involving police, an order from the Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan said.
He was appointed on the directions of the
Election Commission of India.
All field police officers handling any election related work shall report to Maghendran till completion of the election process in the state, the order said.
Further, five District Collectors were also transferred.
The Collectors of Karur, Tiruvarur, Tiruvannamalai, Tirunelveli and Pudukottai were transferred on the basis of the EC directive.
Also, three IPS officers, including Karan Singha, ADGP, CB-CID, Chennai, were transferred from their current posts and appointed elsewhere.
