MADURAI: The Madurai rural police arrested an
AIADMK ward secretary for distributing cash to voters near Sholavandan on Tuesday evening. Cash amounting to 55,000 was seized from him. A special team conducted the surprise inspection based on a tip-off.
The accused was identified as Sundaresan, a ward-level secretary in Sholavandan. Investigation revealed that the accused was disbursing 250 per voter door-to-door on Kallar Street and its adjoining areas.
Samayanallur police are investigating.
Income tax officials also carried out raids at homes and offices of people close to local AIADMK leaders. The raid was conducted following allegations from various party representatives against the ruling party.
In Madurai, a raid was conducted on Monday night at a house belonging to one Muthuramalingam, an AIADMK functionary, on Theni Main Road.
A similar raid was also conducted in a construction office near the Dindigul bus terminal.
The office belongs to one Janagar, who is said to be close to electricity minister Natham Vishwanathan, who is contesting from Athoor in Dindigul.
