MADURAI: Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate in Nanguneri assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, S Thirupathi, joined the ruling AIADMK on Friday.
Thirupathi (35), who was also the state vice-president of the PMK, came to the AIADMK office in Tirunelveli and joined the party. AIADMK candidate in Tirunelveli constituency Nainar Nagenthran was present when Thirupathi joined the party.
When TOI asked him about his decision to join AIADMK, Thirupathi said, “The PMK headquarters did not give me money to meet campaign expenses. It had assured to provide me money for election expenditure. The candidates of AIADMK and Congress are very strong in terms of money power. I do not wish to let my party down for want of money. Hence, I joined AIADMK.”
It was reported that a sexual harassment complaint lodged against him by the wife of his driver and a subsequent police inquiry forced Thirupathi to join the ruling party.
Commenting on this, he said, "The complaint against me was false, which I would face legally.”
