Madurai: Criticizing the DMK's alliance with the Congress, co-operative minister Sellur K Raju said that when the DMK came out from the Congress-led UPA alliance, its chief M Karunanidhi had said that an unfair friendship would end up in an unpleasant situation. But he has again struck up an alliance with the Congress.
Sellur K Raju, who presided over the opening of the AIADMK's election office for Madurai West assembly constituency at Jaihindpuram on Tuesday, accused the DMK of cheating the people.
"The present AIADMK government has allotted Rs 164.28 crore to construct flyovers at Goripalayam and Kalavasal. Fund has been allotted to acquire land from Periyar Bus stand to Yanaikkal for construction of the flyovers. Tenders have been called for to carry out Madurai Ring Road work at a cost of Rs 200.14 crore. But the DMK chief has announced those road work projects in his election manifesto. It is nothing but cheating the people."
"Agricultural loans to the tune of Rs 9,136 crore were given by the DMK government. But Rs 49,000 crore was given to 50 lakh farmers in the past five years and the loan amount was collected. In this situation, how can the DMK say the loan is unpaid and will be waived?"
Revenue minister and Thirumangalam candidate R B Udhayakumar said AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa had announced party candidates for all constituencies, but the DMK was still undecided on its candidates. "Our cadre should work hard and make our candidates win in all 10 constituencies in the district," Udhayakumar said.
Madurai North candidate and former Madurai mayor V V Rajan Chellapa and senior functionaries were present during the opening of the election office.
