At a press briefing at the Secretariat on Monday evening, Lakhoni said polling in 232 constituencies in the state was 63.7% till 2.30pm. Chennai recorded 50.27% polling till 2.30pm.

Responding to queries on time extension for certain constituencies, Lakhoni said, "No time extension will be given in any district as rain has started to recede. We have instructed all the collectors to allow people, who reach the booth before the polling time ends, to cast their votes. All those who reach booths will be issued tokens and allowed to vote."

He added that polling in southern districts increased in the last three hours.

The Election Commission's main control room call centre at the Secretariat received 18,500 calls from 6am till 5pm, mostly regarding booth slips and name missing from rolls.
