In this Tamil Nadu village, people only know what symbol they want to vote for
NAGAPATTINAM: The island village of Kodiyampalayam is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal and a river.
Although there is a road link to it, getting there by car is tedious so most people prefer to take a boat .
Due to its location, people from the 500 residences here remain somewhat cut off from the mainland.
They do vote, though.
Ahead of the
After he diligently went to every home to give all voters booth slips, he asked a woman about the candidate in her constituency.
She looked perplexed for a minute and then understood.
“No. We don't know about Constituency Candidate and all. We will vote only by seeing symbol of the political party,” she said.
The election officer then learned that almost all the voters in this village don’t know their constituency or their candidate, they just know what symbol they want to vote for.
