Father of Communism, Socialism lives in Salem

This is one family that flaunts its ideology. A Mohan, a committed CPI member and party candidate for Veerapandi in Salem, has named his sons Communism, Leninism and Socialism. Mohan, a vanniyar, comes from a long line of Communists. "My forefathers were communists and so am I," said Mohan, 48. "Communism is in my blood. So, the names seemed appropriate for my sons."
Mohan's oldest son Communism is a 24-year-old advocate, who has been practicing for the past year.His younger sons, Leninism and Socialism, both hold BCom degrees and run a silver anklet manufacturing unit near their village.
Communism said he quite enjoys the fact that he has an unusual name. "If I say my name, it never fails to raise eyebrows. It's unusual and people always want to know why I've been named Communism," he said.
And that's been an ice-breaker that's won him many friends. "The senior advocate I work for says he took me on as his junior only because of my name," he said.
Leninism and Socialism also say they're proud of their names as it reflects their ideals. This is the first time Mohan has been given a ticket, and he's been campaigning tirelessly for the last few weeks. He is planning to take his three sons on the trail for the campaign, and the boys seem enthused about working for their father's victory.
