A survey that was done recently by NGO Association for Democratic Reforms revealed that a large number of voters are concerned with traffic congestion, air and water pollution. Another survey conducted by Satta Panchayat Iyakkam across many districts in Tamil Nadu also revealed that voters are interested in the government solving social and economic issues. People want the government to take steps to lower inflation and take action against corruption. Freebies come last in their wish list.

“We conducted an opinion poll to understand major issues, which need government's attention," said a statement issued by the NGO.

The poll was conducted between November 14, 2015, and April 2016 in many districts. “The first major issue people voted for was controlling price rise. This was followed by action against corruption," said the release.

Quality education and affordable medical aid, focus on industry , agriculture, employment and liquor prohibition were the main concerns.“Only 2.9% favoured getting freebies, the rest wanted the government to concentrate on issues like price rise and prohibition," the NGO said.
