Thiruvarur: A day after chief minister J Jayalalithaa lashed out at the DMK by terming it anti-farmer in Thanjavur, DMK treasurer M K Stalin on Monday defended his party and listed the pro-farmer initiatives taken during the DMK's rule. Campaigning for his father and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, who is contesting from Thiruvarur constituency, he urged voters to remove the AIADMK from power.
Addressing the public at a meeting that took place at Koraddacherry in Thiruvarur, Stalin, who began his campaign early in the morning criticised the AIADMK and also stressed that it was the DMK that introduced several pro-agricultural policies. He also said his party was the first to provide free power for farmers, which was introduced in 2006.
"AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa has been claiming that she is for the people and is living for the people, however Karunanidhi has always been thinking about the people even if he is not in power," claimed Stalin. He further added that the AIADMK supremo has all along been saying that she had sacrificed her life for the welfare of the people and asked whether she is willing to distribute the 900 acres in Kodanadu to the poor.
