Expelled DMDK MLAs, led by the party's former propaganda secretary V C Chandirakumar, launched a new party , Makkal Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (MDMDK), on Sunday.
At a meeting, Chandirakumar, along with MLAs C H Sekar, S R Parthipan and other district secretaries who were expelled from the DMDK last week, announced the floating of a new outfit. But they described it as a “movement to remove the AIADMK regime“.
“In Tamil Nadu, we need a change of government and will do anything to achieve it,“ Chandirakumar said. He added that they would contest in the May 16 assembly election if they get a chance. He asserted that the party would not stake claim over the DMDK symbol. More MLAs and district secretaries were ready to join the new party, he claimed. Asked about a possible alliance with the DMK, he said, “DMK is no enemy, if Kalaignar (DMK chief M Karunanidhi) or (DMK treasurer M K) Stalin call us, we will go to meet them,“ he said.
