Sellur K Raju is a contented man. He sees his term as MLA of Madurai West constituency and minister for cooperation as a productive and successful one, since no one else with that portfolio has managed to last the full five years. The AIADMK leader is back in the fray, and plans to build on the work he’s done in the field of education. Excerpts from an interview to TOI:
Have you delivered on all your election promises? In our party, there is no need to make big promises.
All issues are addressed by the Vision 2023 document released by our party supremo (J Jayalalithaa). All I have to do is follow it. I have fulfilled the expectations and demands of the people in my constituency.
What have you done for the constituency?I have spent the Rs 10 crore from my MLA fund on construction of community halls and anganwadis, laying of bitumen and paver block roads, and addressing drinking water problems. Roads from Vilangudi to Samayanallur have been widened and a median installed to reduce accidents. Most roadside encroachments have been removed.
What have you done to improve education? The state government is already doing a wonderful job. In my constituency, I built school compound walls and set up a government BEd college. It has been allotted and the Madurai collector is in the process of finding land. I plan to bring an arts and science college here.
