AIADMK councillor attacks DMK men, pregnant woman in Chennai

An AIADMK councillor in Greater Chennai Corporation allegedly attacked two DMK cadres and the party office in the Kotturpuram Housing Unit on Thursday.

CHENNAI: An AIADMK councillor in Greater Chennai Corporation allegedly attacked two DMK cadres and the party office in the Kotturpuram Housing Unit on Thursday.
DMK members were following the assembly election results on television at their party office when the AIADMK councillor G Kandhan, representing ward 172, and his men barged in.
Kandhan and his cousin Durai attacked K Kumar, 40, and M Suresh, 30, with a knife.
They also beat up some women sitting around the DMK office.
Kandhan and his men then went to DMK ward secretary K Mani's house located opposite the party office, and attacked his daughter-in-law, S Shenbagam, 28, who is pregnant.
"They attacked me with a plastic pot, and broke the furniture in the house. My husband, Suresh, has sustained injuries on his head, and has been rushed to the hospital," she said.
Deputy commissioner of police, Mylapore, V Balakrishnan, asked police personnel to ensure peace in the area, and advised the victim's family to register a complaint.
