CHENNAI: In a sign that the youth vote may well be a decisive factor in the election, the final electoral roll released by the Election Commission on Friday showed that every 4th voter in Tamil Nadu is in the 18-29 age group. There are 5.82 crore voters in the final list and of this 1.38 crore voters are in this age group. This constitutes a little more than 23% of the total voters. In the 2011 assembly election, only 15% of voters were in this age group.

There are more than twice as many first time voters in the age group of 18 and 19 in this election compared to 2011 -21.05 lakh against 8.56 lakh.In the final count for the 2016 assembly election, there are 2.93 crore women voters, 2.88 crore men and 4,720 belong to the third gender.

The final poll roll released by the Election Commission after its purification exercise shows that nearly 80% of the state's population (2011 census) has been enrolled in the voters' list.
