Villupuram: PMK founder leader S Ramadoss expressed optimism that the party will emerge victorious in the ensuing 2016 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu if the neutral voters and youth extend support to the party.
Addressing a press conference at his Thailavaram gardens cum residence near Tindivanam on Sunday (March 20) Ramadoss pointed out that 1.2 crore voters mostly youth and people without any politicial affiliations have been included in the voters list between 2011 and 2016.
He was optimistic that they will extend support to his party in the polls leading the party to victory.
Quoting a survey conducted by a college he said 99% of the people wanted a change in the government while 80% of students and 82% of the youth wanted PMK's chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss to become the chief minister.
He charged that the DMK and AIADMK had ruined the state during their successive governance in the last four decades. He appealed to the youth and neutral voters not to shun politics but to play a proactive role in safeguarding the democratic principles and cleansing the corrupt political system in the country.
He said another survey revealed that Tamil Nadu ranked second in receiving cash for votes just behind Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh was placed third in the dubious list. He said such unethical practice was not reported in states like Kerala, West Bengal and Assam.
The Election Commission of India has fixed a ceiling on poll expenditure by the candidates. A candidate contesting Lok Sabha polls must not spend more than Rs 75 lakh but in reality the candidates spend more than Rs 50 crore. Similarly for assembly polls the candidates spend more than Rs 10 crore, he said.
