Thrissur: KPCC President V M Sudheeran on Thursday conceded that the state would witness a tough fight between the UDF and LDF and it is difficult to predict how many seats his front would win.
Addressing a `meet-thepress’’ at the Thrissur Press Club, Sudheeran, however, claimed that the UDF will return to power more seats than last polls.
He said the quality of the campaign one week to 10 days ahead of the elections will decide the winners. It will be difficult to make a realistic prediction at this stage, the KPCC president said. Sudheeran said Congress president Sonia Gandhi would reach the state on May 9 for campaigning.
She would address rallies in Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram. Party vice-president Rahul Gandhi would campaign for two days in the first week of May.
The days and venues of Rahul’s campaign are yet to be finalised, he said. Replying to question, the KPCC president said corruption can be fought genuinely only if the political parties shun their current partisan attitudes.
“Unfortunately, corruption is being fought on the basis of politics. LDF had made the conviction of R Balakrishna Pillai in a corruption case a major rallying point during the campaign for the last assembly polls, but it has now entered into an alliance with Pillai’s party,’’ he said.
Stating that tackling corruption needs a holistic perspective, the KPCC president said that he had suggested the formation of a state vigilance commission to check corruption.
