TMC denied official symbol in Kerala

NEW DELHI: Kerala high court has dismissed a petition filed by Trinamool Congress's state unit to allot the party symbol (flowers and grass) to candidates contesting in state polls. The petition was filed by Trinamool Congress leaders TM Joseph and Shyam P Ashraf. The Election Commission had denied them the permission citing the reason that they are not a recognised national party.

The party is likely to settle with any of the alternative symbols: telephone, ring or cauliflower.

Trinamool Congress is contesting in 124 out of 140 constituencies in the state. As Kerala has more than 15 lakh Bengali population, TMC is hopeful of winning some seats. However, the party workers have reportedly been campaigning in the state at their own expense as the party's Kerala campaign has been sidelined in the backdrop of Bengal polls.
