KOCHI: The district administration and Suchitwa Mission might be keen on implementing the green protocol during the upcoming assembly polls, but it seems the political parties have not taken up the issue seriously.
Sources with the district administration said that unless the parties take a decision and ask cadres to follow the same, it would not be pos sible to enforce the protocol “Each party must declare their decision on how they plan to keep disposable and non-biodegradable materia to a minimum.
When they hold conventions and mee tings, too much plastic waste is generated. This is in the form of flex boards, plastic decorative material, food packets and water bottles They should have a clear plan for waste disposal,“ sa id an official.
Meanwhile, CPM said that they have made a propo sal to keep the campaign green. “We will announce it when the final draft is cleared. Saplings will be planted at various polling stations. The programme will be launched at Gandhinagar on Monday evening,“ said CPM Ernakulam area secretary Seenu Lal.
However, UDF and BJP said they were seriously considering the issue, and a decision would be announced without much delay . “Such matters have to be discussed at state level,“ said C G Rajagopal of BJP.
