Kochi: Security has been tightened in Ernakulam on the eve of election with police and paramilitary personnel deployed in 2,054 booths in 14 constituencies. The polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm.

The police and excise squads conducted special patrols to check flow of alcohol, unaccounted money and freebies on Sunday.

Apart from policemen from stations in Ernakulam rural and Kochi city, men from paramilitary forces and reserve battalions are creating security cover in the district. Polling materials, including electronic voting machines, were taken to all booths by evening. There are 225 sensitive booths in the district of which, 25 are under the limits of Kochi city police.

Quick reaction teams and striking forces will be deployed in strategic locations across the district to manage law and order on the polling day. For each ten polling booths, a mobile patrol team will be kept on stand by. Of the 2,054 booths in the district, 27 booths are additional ones. As many as 141 booths will have webcam facility.
