Public campaign to conclude today

Public campaigning by various political parties and independent candidates will come to an end at 6pm on Saturday. With the stage set for the final showdown, the chief electoral officer, in an official statement issued on Friday, has called for the support of all parties in ensuring peaceful conduct of road shows and demonstrations.

Thiruvananthapuram: Public campaigning by various political parties and independent candidates will come to an end at 6pm on Saturday.
With the stage set for the final showdown, the chief electoral officer, in an official statement issued on Friday, has called for the support of all parties in ensuring peaceful conduct of road shows and demonstrations.

Strict orders have been issued to cops to take measures to prevent untoward incidents.
A ban on broadcast of programmes, related to public campaigning, via electronic media will also be in force.
Meanwhile, the election commission has approved 10 more documents, which can be used by voters as identity proof if they do not possess a valid voter’s ID card or voter’s slip issued by the election commission.
These documents include Indian passport, driving licence, photo affixed bank/post office passbook, except those issued by co-operative banks, PAN card, NPR smart card, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee card, health insurance smart card issued by the ministry of health and photo-bearing pension document.
Central, state and public sector employees can produce their photo-bearing service identity cards. However, NRI voters should produce their passport as identity proof.
