KOTTAYAM: Oommen Chandy said he is more responsible for the defeat as he is the chairman of the UDF. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Puthuppally on Thursday, he also said that the defeat was unexpected and upset all calculations. He did not give a clear reply whether he will be the opposition leader in the new assembly.
“Responsibility of the failure is with the party and the UDF. As the chairman of the UDF I am more responsible,” he said.
“UDF is respecting the decision of the people. This setback was unexpected.”
“In the campaign as well as the discussions after that we believed UDF will put up a better show. The result is different to what we had thought,” he said.
“Defeat is always defeat. We will analyse at the party level and in the UDF,” he added.
He said that he never expected BJP to open account. “In Manjeswaram and Vattiyoorkkavu UDF candidates strongly resisted the BJP candidate,” he said.
He also said that those facing allegations contesting in the elections did not affect the result.
When asked whether he will be the opposition leader Chandy said it will be decided by the elected MLAs and party leadership.
He also said there is no possibility of UDF welcoming P C George into its fold.
