THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 70 transgender people will cast their votes for assembly elections from Thiruvananthapuram district. This is for the first time transgender people were included in voters' list.
The district administration has implemented all the directives of Supreme Court and Election Commission in adding transgender people to voters' list.
Surya, a television artiste and transsexual, said that they have been alienated for a long time for electoral process. "We could get voting right owing to intervention from district election wing," said Surya. Surya will cast her vote at Pattor. Sheethal Syam, a representative of transgender people also welcomed the decision. Sheethal will cast vote at Kodannur, Thrissur.
The district administration had impelmented so many measures to increase the voting percentage in the district. Inclusion of transsexuals was one among the major initiatives, said officials of district administration.
