Tarun Gogoi engages in 'war of words' with Badruddin Ajmal

GUWAHATI: Long after the end of the assembly election, chief minister Tarun Gogoi and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday engaged in a war of words over who would become the next chief minister of Assam.

Three-time chief minister Gogoi, who has been keeping Ajmal at bay since 2006, on Sunday scoffed at Ajmal's wish to become the kingmaker this time. "It will be the most unfortunate entry in Assam's history if Ajmal becomes the kingmaker. Every election he says he would be the kingmaker but has never become one," Gogoi said.

The billionaire perfume maker hit back immediately in his tweets. "According to @tarun_gogoi it would be the greatest tragedy for Assam if I become chief minister. Can he explain why?" His next tweet read, "Does the constitution grant rights only to @tarun_gogoi to be Chief Minister??" and again, "The one who will be chief minister will be based on people's mandate. @tarun_gogoi is no one to decide on that."
