Highest turnout in Paresh Baruah home town

Guwahati: Ulfa-I leader Paresh Baruah's home constituency Chabua in upper Assam saw the highest turnout among all 65 constituencies that voted in the first phase of polls on Monday.
Registering 85.19% polling, the turnout here is above the state average of 78.06%. Chabua is also the Air Force's youngest Sukhoi base. Spread over Dibrugarh district, it is also home to Ulfa general secretary Anup Chetia who was recently deported from Bangladesh to take part in the ongoing peace talks with the Centre.
Chetia and the other members of the outfit are not taking part in the election because Ulfa's constitution does not recognize the Indian Constitution.
Baruah, who is believed to be holed up in Myanmar, continues to fight for Assam's 'sovereignty'.
