Guwahati: The Election Commission barred Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi from holding a press conference on the polling day of the final round of the two-phase Assam election. Gogoi addressed the media after EC officials could not provide him a written notice.
Gogoi alleged, "EC is not playing a neutral role this time. I am also a lawyer. I should have been served a notice. Where is it? Under what laws can EC bar me?"
The EC action came on the basis of a complain by BJP.
Gogoi said in his press conference that he wanted to clarify on the allegations leveled by Bjp leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday. "Yesterday EC did not stop Himanta from campaigning even after the end of time. I am exercising my right to clarify today," Gogoi said.
