Amit Shah uses Bohag Bihu metaphor to attack ruling Congress in Assam

TEZPUR: With Assam raring to celebrate the Bohag Bihu, BJP national president Amit Shah on Monday used the metaphor of spring festival to attack the ruling Congress. Shah said at an election rally in Naobaicha assembly constituency in Lakhimpur district, about 150 km from here, that as everyone dons new clothes on the first day of the Bohag month (mid April) people of Assam should also go for new government under BJP by routing the Congress which has been power for 15 years.

Assembly election in the state will be held in two phases on April 4 and 11. Polling will be completed before the Bohag Bihu festival.

Shah’s speech was also laced with verses from music maestro Bhupen Hazarika’s songs on the month of Bohag and Bohag Bihu.

“In Bohag Bihu we wear new clothes and bid adieu to the old ones. Likewise we should bid adieu to the old Congress government and have new government under BJP. This festival of spring is the apt occasion to end the 15 years of Congress rule,” Shah said.

Taking on the ruling Congress, Shah said that chief minister Tarun Gogoi no longer has the energy to take the state on the path of development further after his three terms as chief minister.

“It’s time for the chief minister to retire and pave the way for new government under BJP chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal,” Shah added.
