With CUET results out, universities gear up for UG admissions
NEW DELHI: Universities in the city are gearing up for undergraduate admissions for the 2024-25 academic session with the National Testing Agency having announced the results of the common university entrance test-Undergraduate on Sunday. Delhi University is offering over 71,000 seats in 65 colleges, while Jawaharlal Nehru University is admitting students to various undergraduate programmes, including BA (H) in foreign languages and integrated BSc programmes, based on CUET scores. At DU, the first phase of the admission process — registration — began on May 28.
“We have received data from NTA and are currently synchronising and integrating it. We expect to start the second phase within a day or two. A correction window is open for students who completed the first phase,” said Haneet Gandhi, dean of admissions, DU. The correction window will remain open until Aug 4 for those wishing to amend their application forms.
Gandhi added, “In the second phase, students will be able to specify their course and college preferences. We want to complete this phase as swiftly as possible. The data this year is slightly different but we hope to commence classes soon.”
A DU official said that the new academic session, originally scheduled to start in Aug, will likely begin in early Sept for undergraduate courses.
At BR Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD), the registration portal for admissions is now open and students can select their subject combinations. A second opportunity to include AUD in their preferences is being offered to students who hadn’t opted for it earlier. “Although the original application deadline was July 31, we have extended it due to the delay in CUET results. Once the data integration is complete, we will announce the cutoff. We aim to start UG classes by mid-Aug,” said Nitin Malik, AUD registrar.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University will begin admitting first-year students based on CUET scores by mid-Aug. “Students who applied through other tests will start their classes by Aug 1. However, due to the delayed results, CUET applicants may start classes after a 15-day difference,” said a university official. To secure a seat at JNU, CUET-UG candidates must have selected the university during the application process.
A JNU official said, “We will initiate the admission process soon. A merit list will be released followed by seat allotment. We hope to start classes by Aug-end or the first week of Sept.” At Jamia Millia Islamia, a merit list based on CUET scores will be prepared once applications are received. An official said, “Students who make the cut must submit the required documents in the subsequent steps. The portal for submission of online applications under CUET is now open for 10 days since Sunday’s declaration of CUET results.”
