'Success requires persistence': Insights from Times of India's Education Summit
NEW DELHI: The Times of India organised the Education Summit 2024 under the Right to Excellence initiative, featuring a panel discussion on "Preparing students for industry 4.0: Skills for the future." The panellists included Shruti Kapoor from Unicef, Kamlesh Vyas from Deloitte India, and Urvashi Prasad from Niti Aayog.
Kamlesh Vyas emphasised the importance of both technical domain skills and behavioral skills, such as communication, initiative, learning, and teamwork, for students. He added, "To get success persistence is required."
Urvashi Prasad discussed Niti Aayog's initiatives to foster key skills like analytical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, curiosity, familiarity, and teamwork in youth. She mentioned the Atal Innovation Mission, which aims to instil curiosity and equip students with the right tools and mindset for innovation. She added that Niti Aayog is also focusing on state universities to promote cutting-edge research, knowledge, and technology.
Shruti Kapoor highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in institutions, focusing on both the supply side (children's skills) and the demand side (economic opportunities and industry reactions). She emphasised that future jobs will have a green element and require upskilling to understand climate change components. Kapoor stressed the need for a platform that matches young people with the right opportunities and employers with suitable candidates.
The panellists shared their success mantras for students in Industry 4.0. Vyas advised youth to take their responsibilities seriously, while Prasad emphasised the importance of empathy and kindness. Kapoor concluded by encouraging youth to focus on building soft skills, including collaboration, team building, leadership, and problem-solving.
