A good university education can give students a jumpstart in their careers and for Shailendra Kumar (39), MBA alumnus of Wesleyan University, it meant tasting 'success' within a surprisingly short period. Presently working with Mikz Alliance as Success Manager - Asia, Kumar's organisation values him for the "fresh and creative ideas" which he had gathered during his stints at various projects. "Handling case studies and projects as a team and individually helped me evolve as a better solution provider, and all of this was part of the course I pursued," he says

With a BE degree in Computer Science from Agra University, Kumar was not the type to be satisfied with the status quo. "During my college years, I used to spend time with teachers and classmates mostly from the local areas. I wanted a sea change to inspire new ideas," Kumar explains.

"I did my internship in a financial services company where I worked on projects related to cost rationalisation by eliminating activities that were not adding value to the company," he says.

Adjusting to academic life was never a problem as his campus had a mix of students from different ethnicity, academic and professional backgrounds."There was always some event/celebration going on which helped me to enjoy my stay on campus," recalls Kumar. "During some projects, we did some local surveys, and it was then that we learned some local syllables to cruise through the market," says Kumar.

Kumar looks back on his MBA days as a gateway to better opportunities. "The course has given me a chance to start working in multinationals from the Philippines. As an Indian, I have the option to apply to companies based out of India as well," reveals Kumar, wanting to make the best of both worlds.
