Visakhapatnam: The Indian Navy’s educational visit for the school children onboard warships attracted hundreds of students of the city. As part of Navy Day celebrations, the Indian Navy organizes this visit every year to expose the children to the Navy.
Around 30 school children visited the warship INS Airavat, an amphibious ship of the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam on Tuesday and Wednesday. A total of 1714 students along with 198 teachers availed of the opportunity.
The teachers and children were given an overview of the Indian Navy and its primary role in safeguarding the nation's maritime interests. They were also briefed on the operational capabilities of various Indian Naval Ships, Submarines, and Aircraft. The students were given a guided tour of INS Airavat and informed about various weapons and sensors fitted onboard the ship and its capabilities for conducting amphibious operations along with the Indian Army.
The interaction with Naval personnel on a warship provided an excellent exposure to the children on the importance of the maritime security of the nation, the general functioning of the Indian Navy, and life onboard a warship.
