WB TET 2022: Bengal Board postpones primary teacher interviews due to elections, new dates soon
WB TET 2022: The interview process for candidates who qualified in the 2022 Primary Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has been postponed due to the ongoing election process, an official said on Friday, according to PTI.
The written examination for the recruitment was conducted on December 11, 2022, and the results of the written test were declared on February 10, 2023. After the results, the interview stage was expected to begin.
Later, the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) issued a notification on March 12, 2026, announcing district-wise interview schedules. The schedule included candidates from Purulia, Bankura, Malda, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, and several other districts.
However, in a fresh notification issued on April 1, the board announced that all previously scheduled interview dates have been postponed until further notice.
“No reason was officially cited for the postponement,” PTI reports.
Board president Goutam Pal confirmed the development on Friday.
“All interview dates announced earlier stand postponed. Revised dates will be notified in due course,” Pal said, according to PTI.
He further stated that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has been informed about the interview process and new dates will be announced after discussions.
"One interview date falls on April 23, which is the day for the first phase polling across the Jangalmahal belt. We announced the postponement following talks with the EC," Pal told PTI.
According to the earlier schedule, interviews for Purulia candidates were to be held from April 6 to April 10. Interviews for Bankura candidates were planned on multiple dates in April.
Interviews for candidates from Alipurduar and Dakshin Dinajpur were scheduled in early May. This was to be followed by interviews for Malda, Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum later in May and early June.
Meanwhile, candidates expressed frustration over the delay. Arup Dasgupta, a candidate from Dakshin Dinajpur, shared his concern.
"I was preparing for the interview after this endless wait since 2023. Are we being treated as guinea pigs?" Dasgupta said, according to PTI.
The board has not yet announced new dates. Candidates are advised to wait for the revised schedule, which will be released after discussions with election authorities.
