UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 result process and answer key details explainedThe Union Public Service Commission conducted the Civil Services Examination Prelims 2026 on Sunday in two shifts across the country for recruitment to services including IAS, IFS and IPS. More than 8.19 lakh candidates appeared for the examination held under strict guidelines and security arrangements.General Studies Paper 1 was conducted from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, while CSAT Paper 2 took place from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Candidates were required to carry printed admit cards, valid photo identity proofs and black ballpoint pens for filling OMR sheets and attendance records at their allotted centres.How candidates can check provisional answer keysUPSC has introduced a revised provisional answer key process for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026. Under the new system, the commission will release provisional answer keys shortly after the examination to improve transparency in the recruitment process.Candidates will be able to access the provisional answer keys through the Online Question Paper Representation Portal available on upsconline.nic.in/login. After logging in, aspirants can review the question papers and submit objections against answers within the prescribed period.According to the commission, candidates can raise objections till May 31, 6 pm. Representations submitted after the deadline will not be considered for review.Result and selection process after prelimsThe preliminary examination serves as the first stage of the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Candidates qualifying in the prelims examination will become eligible to appear for the mains examination, followed by the personality test or interview stage.The commission conducts the examination annually for recruitment to various Group A and Group B civil services posts. The recruitment process includes services such as the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service.Exam-day guidelines followed nationwideUPSC enforced strict rules at examination centres across the country. Electronic items including mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, calculators, tablets, laptops, earphones and headphones were prohibited inside examination halls.Candidates were advised to report at least 30 minutes before the examination began, while entry was closed 10 minutes after commencement of each session. The commission also clarified that no arrangements were available for safekeeping of personal belongings at examination venues.This year, UPSC added Bhubaneshwar, Kanpur and Meerut as new examination cities, taking the total number of centres from 80 to 83. Reports stated that over 23,000 candidates selected the newly introduced centres for the preliminary examination.
