Universities start taking precautions after govt issues Covid-19 advisory

BHUBANESWAR: After the Centre issued coronavirus advisory, the universities have started taking precautions to prevent the Covid-19 infections. The varsities have asked students to follow the corona advisory of the government and report to the local government hospital if they find cough, fever and difficulty in breathing like symptoms.


University Grants Commission (UGC) has also issued advisory to the universities to take precautions. It advised the institutions to avoid large gatherings in the campus. “Any student/staff with travel history to any Covid-19 affected country or in contact with such persons in last 28 days, should be monitored and home quarantined for 14 days,” read the advisory.

The universities have also started the process of creating awareness among the students to wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or use alcohol based hand sanitizer. It also advised them not to touch mouth, nose and eyes and maintain hygiene.

“Anybody with signs and symptoms (cough, fever and difficulty in breathing) should call state helpline number or ministry of health and family welfare’s helpline number 0112397846 or visit public health facility with a mask or mouth covered,” said the advisory.

Sambalpur University

vice chancellor Deepak Behera said they have started taking initiatives to make students aware about the coronavirus and its prevention. “We will not hold large congregations and follow the health advisory of the government. We will ask the employees not to use biometric attendance for some days,” he added.

Berhampur University

said they have discussed with faculties and staff about the advisory. “Our teachers and other staff will tell the students to follow the advisory to prevent the infection. They should inform the administration if anybody came from coronavirus affected country,” he added.
