SSC CGL 2026 Notification out: Registerations under way— Check exam pattern and syllabus
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has begun the registration process for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026. The recruitment drive is expected to fill around 12,256 vacancies across various Group B and Group C posts in central government ministries, departments and organisations.
The online application process started on May 21 and will continue till June 22, 2026, at 11 pm. Candidates who have completed graduation from a recognised university can apply for most posts under the recruitment drive.
The Tier-I examination is scheduled to be held between August and September 2026 in computer-based mode.
Tier-I will be conducted as an objective-type computer-based examination. The paper will have 100 questions carrying a total of 200 marks.
The exam will be divided into four sections — General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Each section will contain 25 questions carrying 50 marks.
Candidates will get one hour to complete the examination. A sectional timer of 15 minutes will be applicable for each section. There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every incorrect answer.
This section tests logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Questions may be asked from verbal and non-verbal reasoning topics including analogies, similarities and differences, coding-decoding, number series, classification, syllogism, statement-conclusion, visual memory, decision-making and relationship concepts.
Candidates may also encounter questions on Venn diagrams, space visualisation, space orientation, critical thinking, emotional intelligence and social intelligence.
The General Awareness section is designed to assess a candidate's understanding of the world around them and current events.
Questions may cover current affairs, history, culture, geography, economics, scientific research and general policy. Candidates should also prepare topics related to India and its neighbouring countries.
Regular reading of newspapers and keeping track of major national and international developments can help in this section.
The Quantitative Aptitude section will test numerical ability and mathematical concepts generally studied up to Class 10 level.
Important topics include percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, partnership, mixtures, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and data interpretation.
Candidates should also prepare topics such as graphs of linear equations, triangles, circles, polygons, cylinders, cones, spheres, histograms, bar diagrams and pie charts.
This section evaluates a candidate's understanding of the English language and comprehension skills.
Questions are expected to test grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension ability and basic writing skills. Unlike other sections, the English Comprehension paper will be available only in English.
