The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee has opened applications for the 2026 edition of its SPARK summer internship programme, aimed at providing research exposure to undergraduate students across India. The initiative seeks to nurture academic talent and encourage participants to pursue higher studies at the institute.
Interested students can submit their applications through the official SPARK portal. The programme will be conducted in physical mode at the IIT Roorkee campus and will run from May 18, 2026 to July 10, 2026.
Programme structure and objectivesThe SPARK internship is designed to offer hands-on research experience to students currently enrolled in undergraduate programmes. The institute has stated that the programme’s primary objective is to provide research exposure and foster academic growth among talented students from institutions nationwide.
In addition to research training, the initiative aims to attract SPARK alumni to apply for higher studies at IIT Roorkee. Interns will work under faculty supervision for a period of six to eight weeks.
Eligibility criteria and CGPA requirementsApplicants must have completed at least two semesters of their undergraduate degree in disciplines such as B.Arch., B.E., B.Tech., BS-MS or M.Sc. from any recognised institute in India.
The minimum CGPA requirement varies by institution. Students from IITs and IISc must have a CGPA of 7.5. Those from NITs, IISERs and NISER are required to have a minimum CGPA of 8.0. For students from other institutes, the minimum CGPA is set at 8.5.
The application deadline is March 8, 2026. Eligible candidates can apply online through the designated portal.
Application process and facilitiesApplications must be submitted through the online system, where candidates are required to upload their latest semester marksheet, a photograph, a 250-word research statement and a one to two-page résumé. Students from institutes other than IIT Roorkee must provide a No Objection Certificate upon joining.
Applicants are required to indicate five faculty members of their choice from the list of professors willing to host summer interns. Selected candidates will receive a stipend of Rs 3000 per week.
Accommodation and mess facilities will be available in the Bhawans on payment of applicable charges. Interns will be issued temporary institute identity cards granting access to the library, sports, medical, computer centre and other campus facilities. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate signed by the Dean, SRIC, bearing the names of the intern and mentor.
