SBI PO notification 2026 expected to be released soon: Check eligibility criteria, selection process and other details
The State Bank of India (SBI) is expected to release the Probationary Officer (PO) notification 2026 shortly on the official website, sbi.co.in. Every year, the SBI PO notification triggers a surge of applications across the country. Last year alone, nearly 6.5 lakh candidates registered. The upcoming exam will have critical details such as vacancies, eligibility, exam pattern, and application details.
The basic pay of ₹48,480 per month makes it one of the highest-paying entry-level positions in public sector banks. Beyond the compensation, the growth opportunities are what make the role attractive. Officers have a clear promotion path, advancing through the ranks from branch-level roles to regional and eventually top-management roles.
The selection process begins with a preliminary examination. This screening is meant to test one's reasoning, quantitative, and English language skills. Those who clear this stage get to move on to the main examination. The main examination is quite challenging and demands the candidate to possess excellent reasoning and analytical skills, awareness of current happenings, command over English, and descriptive talents. Those who clear this stage are sent for the last round of the selection process. This final round comprises group discussion and interview. At this stage, the emphasis is not on the candidate's writing skills but on the person's overall personality and job fit.
The candidate's age must fall between 21 and 30 years on the cutoff date of April 1, 2026. Relaxation in the age limit, however, will be allowed for SC, ST, OBC, and PwBD categories as per government norms.
Academically, candidates must hold a graduate degree in any discipline. Students in their final year, as well as candidates who wish to avail themselves of this year's graduation, are eligible to apply by providing valid proof of graduation by September 30, 2025. This applies to dual-degree holders in the same way.
Another point to note is that the recruitment will not be domain-specific only. Besides, other disciplines like medicine, engineering, chartered accountancy, and cost accounting are also eligible for application, which clearly highlights the enhanced scope of the post.
