The joy on their faces knew no bounds when Bachelor''s in Technology (B Tech) graduates of the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) received their degrees during the 12th convocation of the institute. The convocation, which was held recently after a gap of three years saw B Tech graduates of 2001, 2002 and 2003, being felicitated with degrees and medals.
Delivering the convocation address, the chief minister of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit said: "I congratulate all the graduates who have performed commendably during all these years at the institute.
I am quite hopeful that their achievement will be emulated by the juniors who would attempt to out perform them. Today, the graduates are on the map of Delhi, tomorrow they will be on the map of India and day after they will be on the map of universe with their good performance."
For Rajat Lal, who graduated in 2002 with specialisation in computer engineering, this was the day worth waiting for. He said: "This is a very important day in my life as I owe my success to this institute. I had cleared Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination in 1998 but joined NSIT, as I wanted to specialise in computer science and engineering. It was worth spending four years at NSIT and learning so much from my peers and faculty." Lal is presently working with Siemens, Gurgaon.
Parents of Kritika Ramani, who too passed out in 2002 with specialisation in Manufacturing Process and Automation Engineering (MPAE) were there to collect degree on behalf of their daughter. Kritika''s father, R Ramani remarked, "I am happy that my daughter has finally been awarded her graduating degree. However, the sad part is that she is not here in person to receive the degree, as she is away in the US to pursue her master''s programme."
Earlier, the director of NSIT, Ranjit Singh presented a report on the different activities taking place at the institute. The ''director''s gold medal'' was awarded to D Lakshmi of electronics and communication engineering, Apoorv Govil of MPAE and Anu Chaudhary of computer engineering for 1997-2001, 1998-2002 and 1999-2003 respectively.
