Noida schools shut for Nursery to Class 8 on January 16 and 17 as dense fog and cold wave persist

Schools in Noida will remain closed for students from Nursery to Class 8 on January 16 (Friday) and January 17 (Saturday) due to persistent dense fog and cold weather conditions. The district education department had announced the extension of winter holidays till January 15 earlier, blaming the cold wave in the area. Since the severe weather persists, the officials have decided to give the students an additional break to take good care of their safety and health.

The closure affects all schools in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, including those affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board, and other education boards. The decision was issued by Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar following directions from the district magistrate and after reviewing the current weather scenario, as reported by PTI.

All schools from Nursery to Class 8 will remain shut on January 16 and 17, according to the official notice. The order applies to both government and private institutions operating in the district.

Noida weather forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is anticipating continued cold and foggy weather for the next few days. On January 16, the minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 5°C and 19°C, respectively, besides dense fog may cause low visibility in the morning. January 17 is forecasted to have very dense fog, and the temperature is expected to be between 5°C and 18°C.

After January 18, the temperatures are supposed to go up gradually, with the minimum temperature being around 6°C and the maximum temperature hitting 20-21°C by January 21. There may still be some fog or mist in the early morning, but the weather is getting better as the day goes on.

Precautionary measures for students and parents

With the cold wave and foggy weather turning severe, it is highly advised for students and parents to exercise more caution. Children must be provided warm clothes, they should avoid going out in the early mornings if it's not necessary, and they should always carry things such as scarves, gloves, and masks with them. Schools and parents have the responsibility to keep children indoors during thick fog and get the latest information from the local authorities for safe travel.
