NCTE opens ITEP 2027-28 applications under NEP 2020, invites eligible institutions to apply: Check details here
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has invited online applications for the sixth phase of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) for the 2027-28 academic session.
The programme is being conducted in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to improve the quality of teacher education in India. According to the official notice, institutions can apply online from May 8, 2026, to May 31, 2026, till 11:59 pm.
Applications will be accepted only through the official NCTE portal. The council has asked eligible multidisciplinary institutions to apply under Sections 14 and 15 of the NCTE Act, 1993.
NCTE is a statutory body that was set up under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993. It started functioning on August 1, 1995.
The body is responsible for regulating teacher education in the country and maintaining proper standards in teacher training institutions.
NCTE said only institutions that meet the prescribed shortlisting criteria will be considered further. Applications from institutions that do not meet the required conditions will be rejected.
The shortlisting rules were approved during the 69th General Body meeting of the council held on May 5, 2026.
The Integrated Teacher Education Programme is an important part of NEP 2020. The policy aims to improve teacher training by promoting integrated and multidisciplinary education. The government wants future teachers to receive better academic training through these programmes.
NCTE said institutions applying for ITEP will have to pay the processing fee as per the NCTE Rules, 1997, and later amendments. The council has advised institutions to complete the application process before the deadline.
