NEW DELHI: The National Law University held its first convocation on Saturday, June 15 at Vigyan Bhawan with President
Pranab Mukherjee as chief guest. Justice Altamas Kabir, Chief Justice of India and Visitor of NLU Delhi, presided over the Convocation and Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed (Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and Chancellor of NLU Delhi) conferred the degrees.
According to a press statement released by NLU, the President advised the graduates from "this prestigious university" to "constantly look for ways to give back to their country."
The LL.D (Honoris Causa), which is NLU Delhi's honorary doctoral degree, was conferred upon Justice Dalveer Bhandari, currently a judge at the International Court of Justice and Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Justice Bhandari is only the fourth Indian to be a permanent judge at the International Court of Justice.
"National Law University Delhi under the leadership of Prof. Ranbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, has established itself in the top rung of law schools in India within a short span of five years. In his address, Professor Singh highlighted theimpressive achievements of the University within a short span and urged the students to have the courage and creativity to chart their own unique paths in the respective careers," says the statement.
The degrees of B.A., LL.B (Hons.), LL.M and Ph.D were conferred at the convocation. The statement further says, "Students from the 2013 Batch of the B.A., LL.B (Hons.) have already been recruited by prominent national and international law firms, and have also been accepted to leading universities across the world."
Salmoli Choudhuri secured the highest rank from the graduating class of B.A.,
LL.B (Hons) and received twelve gold medals for her performance in
various subjects.
